2011: What a Year!

Every year, after ringing in the New Year I become introspective. Looking back at 2011 was different since I turned 40 and there was an acute awareness of being unable to achieve all that I wanted thus far in my life. I looked at my accomplishments, my failures and the lessons I learned with all the experiences I had last year.

Despite of some setbacks, 2011 turned out to be one of the most productive years of my life so far. But I think I was too ambitious and I put too much on my plate. Due to this I’m still editing some of the projects I was supposed to have finished by Dec.31, 2011.

I’m grateful for all the opportunities and for meeting and working with so many talented people in the Bay-area and beyond. I’ll list each project to acknowledge the talent of the individuals I collaborated with in 2011. All these videos were Filmed and Edited by yours truly with some of them Directed by other talented individuals.

Channeling Orwell for Bebe’s Music Video

I’ve had the privilege of working with Bebe Sweetbriar on a number of projects since she first started in 2007. Besides being truly talented and successful in all that she does, Bebe has been very helpful to me in all the projects we worked on together. She is a collaborator in every sense of the word. And this resulted in projects that were not only entertaining but substantial as well. And I hope when people watch Free to be Me music video they will realize this. Of course, this is in addition to dancing and singing to this very catchy dance track composed by DJ Pornstar.

A friend remarked after watching Free to be Me music video that’s it’s very “Orwellian” and if that was intentional. I was glad that he picked that up since I wanted to stay true to Bebe’s vision of the video and at the same time be subtle about the other things. It’s a fun and entertaining video that is all about being yourself and not worrying about what others say. In addition to this concept, I channeled George Orwell and drew inspiration from his novel 1984 and it’s main character, Big Brother. Coincidentally, there is debate in the media these days about possible Drone surveillance in the United States. And all Rights groups led by the ACLU are deeply concerned about losing individual privacy.

If you’re in S.F. Bay-area, I hope you can join us on Dec.16 for the World Premiere of Free to be Me music video with a Live performance by Bebe Sweetbriar. The event is at Trigger, one of the premium clubs in the Castro at 10pm, and is being organized by one of the best party organizers in San Francisco, Jorge Chamorro. Shu Uemura Campain for Joseph Cozza Salon

Steve Jobs (1955 – 2011)

In 2004, when I was contemplating what editing software to buy, a few filmmaker friends advised me to purchase Apple’s Final Cut Pro and a Mac. I’m glad I listened and bought a G5 with a dual processor and Final Cut Pro version 4.5. This was my entrance to the world created by it’s inspiring creator Steve Jobs. Then year after year I watched as Steve took to the stage and presented his creations ranging from iphones to ipads to computers with handsome designs.

Now that he isn’t with us, more and more people are realizing that he really did change the world. Steve Job’s brilliant ideas and innovations made Apple the second most valuable company in the United States in 2011.

Besides being brilliant at what he did, Steve inspired and touched many when he shared his personal story on a few occasions. He encouraged everyone to “think different” and “to trust in something, your gut, destiny, life, karma…..because believing that the dots would connect down the road would give you the confidence to follow your heart….and that would make all the difference”.

Thank you Steve. You made a huge difference.
